Misty

Misty Moore Affleck
May 8, 1979 - May 21, 2012
I've been putting off doing this post for 6 months now.  I knew I'd do a lot of crying, but totally worth writing down memories to keep in our little family journal.  I have so many feelings of guilt, regret, sadness and also joy thinking of all the amazing times we had together.  Misty and I got married a week apart from each other and after that we didn't see each other much and only talked to each other once or twice a year.  Although, each time we talked it felt like normal.  I always loved talking to her.  In March I heard she was getting divorced so immediately I called her and we talked several times before she passed.  I am so grateful that I was able to talk to her so much otherwise this would have been even harder than it already is.  Every time I talked to her it was like were still best friends and nothing changed.  We were planning on moving to Utah and she said it was all meant to be, for me to move back and we'd have each other back in our lives.  Then everything changed about a week before we moved to Utah.
I have had several dreams about Misty after she died.  Some, super crazy, but others so incredibly real and much needed.  In most of them we are just hanging out like normal, just talking.  It's crazy, I asked her questions that I needed answered right now and she answered them.  I've never had an experience like that before.  But it has helped me a lot and put my mind at ease.
Misty was a huge part of my life all through middle school and high school.  Right when we met we bonded instantly.  We were inseparable.  We fought A LOT, but we always had each other's back.  One of my favorite fights was I thought the trees in the mountains were called quakees and she thought they were Aspen.  We were so mad at each other.  So we asked Ken (her dad) what they were called and he said they were called Quaking Aspen and we were both right.  Most of our fights seemed to be a lot like that, silly.
We were both super naive.  I remember somebody would tell a dirty joke and both she and I would laugh and then later we'd try to figure out what it meant.  At one point Kim and Heidi did a little sex-ed after school for us because we didn't know anything about that stuff!
We loved to make up dances.  Paula Abdul was a favorite of ours.  We both had our first boyfriends at the same time, who were also best friends so we could all hang out together.  We motivated each other to be our best, mostly because we wanted to beat each other at everything.  Our gym teacher in middle school loved how competitive we were.  We wanted to beat each other so bad running the mile.  We would always be a foot in front or behind the other but usually 10 minutes in front of the rest of our class who could care less about running at that age.
We loved having sleepovers, especially out on the tramp.  Misty loved to scare me for some reason about crazy dogs under the tramp who were going to attack us.  We all knew it was fake, but somehow still scary.
Misty was naturally good at everything.  I wanted to learn how to do a backflip on the tramp and we stayed outside all day with her spotting me until I could do it.  She was also amazing at belly dancing.  Random, I know, but I always found that fascinating.
We had a bit of a rebellious side to us.  One time we stole Kathy's car when we were 15.  We got to a dirt road in Sunbrook and then got scared and turned around.  As we were turning around we backed up over a little ledge and thought we were going to get stuck.  We didn't, but it scared us enough to never try that again!
Our favorite thing to do was make videos, and we made some amazing ones.  Anna was a part of most of those.  If it wasn't video's then we were probably taking pictures.  I have moved so many times and can't find 99% of our photos, but here are a few.
We were always a little too cool for girls camp but still loved to go.  For some reason Misty always wanted us to get lost on our hikes.  Of course, I was paranoid about that so I carried a whistle just in case we succeeded one time.  We never actually got brave enough to get too far off the trail though.  Misty loved to bring her disc man and we'd listen to the Smiths in our tent while we were suppose to be helping with something.
This is us with Brooke Eggertz

We did a lip sync to "Going to the Chapel".  Misty and I were the singers while Brooke and Amy Glauser were the actors.  It looks like Anna Bostwick, Michelle Chavira, Kim, and Cheri Jones as our back up dancers.
One year they had a huge mud pile that we all played in and then Misty got hypothermia
while in the homemade sauna after.

We loved our stuffed animals, oh and taking pictures of ourselves.

I think this was our 9th grade photo with our friends (many left out, kinda random).
She loved all our random pets.

This was on our high school graduation cruise.  We were in CanCun here.
And these last two are my favorite.  Misty worshiped her sister Heidi.  She wanted to be just like her.  Heidi played soccer and then soccer became our lives.  We practiced all the time.  They were so much alike.  Kim and I took a picture of both of them as they were turning the corner and they happened to be doing the exact same thing.  I always thought it was super cute.

My heart still aches for her 4 sweet little boys.  I hope they hear all the wonderful things about her and know she was an amazing person.  I love the memories she and I have together.  As sad as I am, I know she is in a better place.  Love you Mist...

Talan is 7!! WOOHOO!

Our sweet Tal turned 7 on Sept 21st.  We just moved to Phoenix so we had the Wyatt's over and a couple of his friends from school.  Jono and Anneli also stopped by with their kiddos.
Some of  my favorites of Talan growing up.

Maddy helped with the planning and put up her snow cone machine for the kiddos.
